Migration: Europe’s Complicity in Massive Human Rights Violations

Human Wrongs Watch

MADRID, Jun 19 2023 (IPS)* – Make no mistake: European States are complicit in the death of thousands and thousands of human beings on their shores, land borders and at home. The massive drowning of hundreds of migrants close to Greece shores on 14 June is just a new chapter in Europe’s long series of continued violations of all international human rights laws.

Empire of Jingoistic Lies

Human Wrongs Watch

By Bishnu Pathak – TRANSCEND Media Service*

8 Apr 2023 – The Empire of Lies is to discuss how the United States and its military alliance created, encircle, attack, and destroy its potential rivals or Governments and leaders abusing their (including NATO) powers, proxy politics, and victor-centric justice.

Prof. Bishnu Pathak

Before any kind of action against the rivals, the US spreads the jingoistic propaganda itself and even through NATO. NATO is a constituent of a collective, defensive, and rich countries’ alliance that mostly functions under control or leadership of the USA.

The main objective of NATO is to guarantee the security and freedom of its member countries by political-military triumphalist means. NATO remains the major security mechanism of the intercontinental community and expression of its shared democratic values nato.usmission.gov/about-nato/

Those accused include four crew members of the Iuventa, a former fishing trawler credited with saving some 14,000 migrant lives in the Mediterranean Sea, and human rights activists from other civilian vessels.

Migrants? ‘Don’t You Dare Come Here, Unless…’

Human Wrongs Watch

MADRID, Dec 19 2022 (IPS)* – When tens of thousands of Europeans had to flee the horrors of two born-in-Europe devastating armed conflicts that attracted other powers: the World Wars I and II, they migrated to the Americas and other Western countries in search of safe haven.

Upon their arrival at their destination, they were checked at the border and admitted to enter as useful workforce.

Seldom, if ever, anybody classified them as “illegal” migrants. Those human beings were fleeing the horrors of those wars.

How Europe Has Navigated Its Energy Crises

Human Wrongs Watch

John P. Ruehl | Globetrotter – TRANSCEND Media Service*

A multifaceted response from Europe has so far prevented its energy woes from creating widespread social and economic destabilization. But with winter approaching, the crisis is far from over and risks are getting worse.

While European energy prices have eased slightly in recent months, stress continues to build across a continent that has long been dependent on access to cheap Russian energy.

Protests related to high energy costs have been held from Belgium to the Czech Republic in Europe. Fuel shortages have led to long queues to buy petrol at gas stations in France. The Don’t Pay UK movement has urged British citizens to enter a “bill strike” by refusing to pay energy bills until gas and electricity prices are reduced to an “affordable level.”

Europe’s remarkably high energy prices have also fueled climate change protests across the continent.

Of the Mexican Joke and the Nuclear Top Guns

MADRID, Sep 26 2022 (IPS)* – A Mexican joke goes: “I kill people for money. But you are my best friend, so I will kill you for nothing.”

This seems to be the dominating thinking of the five permanent members of the so-called Security Council, who, according to their own definition, hold the “primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security.”

“The Security Council takes the lead in determining the existence of a threat to the peace or act of aggression,” they say, while calling upon parties to a dispute to settle it “by peaceful means.”

Nevertheless, they self-attribute the strange right to launch wars. “In some cases, the Security Council can resort to imposing sanctions or even authorise the use of force to maintain or restore international peace and security.”
