Yemen’s education system has been devastated by the country’s brutal conflict, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on 27 March 2018 said, reporting that at least half a million children have dropped out of school since the 2015 escalation of the war.

“An entire generation of children in Yemen faces
a bleak future because of limited or no access to education,” said Meritxell Relaño, UNICEF Representative in Yemen. “Even those who remain in school are not getting the quality education they need.”

More than 1,700 people have reportedly been killed in military operations and airstrikes on Eastern Ghouta since late February, the United Nations aid chief on 27 March 2018 said, describing the past few months of relentless bloodshed as “some of the worst yet” for civilians inside war-torn Syria.

Almost every farmer in India’s massive rural swathes is tethered, in one way or another, to the sahukar, the Indian variety of the moneylender, the ubiquitous, ravenous loan shark.
For centuries, moneylenders have monopolized rural Indian credit markets.
Families have lost land, farmers have been asked to prostitute their wives to pay off debts, and, when all else has failed, they have tied the noose to end their misery.

A United Nations spokesman on 26 March 2018 said that Secretary-General António Guterres is shocked at reports of remarks attributed to Myanmar Senior General U Min Aung Hlaing. “He urges all leaders in Myanmar to take a unified stance against incitement to hatred and to promote communal harmony,” said Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq.

Reporting that over the past three months, Israel has advanced 22 plans for some 1,200 housing units for one area of the West Bank, a UN envoy on 26 March 2018 warned that such ongoing settlement expansion is eroding the prospect of a two-state solution to the long-standing Middle East conflict.
