Fighting Cholera: Prevention Efforts for Displaced Families in Yemen

Over 18.6 million Yemenis, more than half of the total population, currently need humanitarian assistance. Many are living in collective sites or camps for displaced people.

12 September 2024 (Norwegian Refugee Council)* — In such sites, cholera, a disease that can be potentially fatal, poses a significant threat. Lack of access to clean water, proper latrines and health education all contribute to the spread of this disease.

(UN News)* — More than 22,500 people – a quarter of those wounded in Gaza since Israel’s offensive began – have life-changing injuries, requiring rehabilitation services “now and for years to come”, the UN World Health Organization (WHO) reported on Thursday [].

These include severe limb injuries, amputations, spinal cord trauma, traumatic brain injuries and major burns.

In a statement released via his Spokesperson, Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the latest Israeli attack on a school serving as a shelter in Nuseirat on Wednesday [], which killed six staffers from the UN Palestine refugee agency, UNRWA, along with at least 12 others, including women and children.
