(UN News)* — The head of UN Palestine refugee agency UNRWA appealed on Tuesday [22 October 2024] for an immediate truce in northern Gaza in a social media post describing how “three weeks of non-stop bombardments” by Israeli forces have impacted the region.

© UNOCHA/Themba Linden | The access of UN-coordinated humanitarian deliveries to northern Gaza has been largely denied over the past months, leaving people with very limited means to survive.

 

UNRWA staff report that they cannot find food, water or medical care, Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini wrote on X.

‘Just waiting to die’

“The smell of death is everywhere as bodies are left lying on the roads or under the rubble. Missions to clear the bodies or provide humanitarian assistance are denied,” he said.

(UN News)* — The UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has said that an Israeli army bulldozer demolished an observation tower and the perimeter fence of a UN position earlier on Sunday [20 October 2024] in Marwahin, in the southern part of the country.

A press statement issued by the Mission, formally known as the UN Interim Force in Lebanon, said Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) “deliberately demolished” the watchtower and the fence surrounding the Marwahin site.

11-year-old Abbas was injured by shrapnel near his home in southern Lebanon, fleeing with his family and leaving behind everything

(UNICEF Lebanon)* 11 October 2024 — Abbas, 11 years old, was hit by shrapnel in his hand after a missile struck near his house in the south of Lebanon.

“I was at home when suddenly a rocket fell near our home. I went out to see what happened, and all of a sudden, I looked at my hand and saw it was covered in blood,” he recounted.
