(UN News)* — Escalating hostilities in the occupied West Bank are putting the fragile ceasefire in Gaza at risk, the UN agency that assists Palestine refugees, UNRWA, warned in a statement on Monday [].

It comes a day after Israeli Security Forces (ISF) carried out a series of controlled detonations at the Jenin refugee camp, located in the northern West Bank, destroying large areas there “in a split second”.

‘Robbed’ of Their Childhood: UNICEF Warns of Crisis Facing Haiti’s Youth

(UN News)* — Violent clashes this week between security forces and armed groups on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince have led to another wave of displacement, according to the UN aid coordination office (OCHA).  

In Haiti, the ongoing crisis has led to children being recruited by armed groups, often drawn in due to poverty, lack of access to education, and social instability, which make them vulnerable to exploitation.

On 10 December 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a Declaration setting out, for the first time, the fundamental human rights that should to be universally protected.

Born from the atrocities of World War II, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was the world’s first comprehensive statement of universal human rights.

“All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights,” states the Declaration’s Article 1.

Indeed, it enshrines “the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being – regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.”
