27 July 2019 (Wall Street International)* — Trump’s tweet calling on the four Democratic congresswomen of color to go back to their “broken and crime infested” countries must have been soothing music to egos of his base.

In fact, in defending his comments, Trump declared that “many people agree with me.” His tweets made them feel whole and “white” again.

UN Human Fights Chief Fears World Has Grown Numb to Syrian Carnage

The relentless campaign of airstrikes in Syria has been met with a “collective shrug,” the top United Nations human rights official said on Friday [26 July 2019], denouncing the world’s apparent indifference to the mounting civilian casualties as a “failure of leadership” by the world’s most powerful countries.

Geneva, 26 July 2019 (IOM)*  – A new report out today (26/07) examines the connection between migration and modern slavery and focuses on which migrants are most vulnerable to being forced into modern slavery, and under what circumstances.

Prepared by Minderoo Foundation’s Walk Free initiative and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for the Alliance 8.7 Action Group on Migration, the report provides recommendations on key steps governments can take to address this risk.

The report confirms certain sub-groups of migrants are at particular risk.

Senior UN Officials Call for Return to Sea Rescues, after ‘the Worst Mediterranean Tragedy of this Year’

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, along with the heads of a number of UN agencies, expressed horror at Thursday’s [25 July 2019] reports that as many as 150 people may be dead after a boat they were traveling in capsized off the coast of Libya, making it the worst such tragedy in the Mediterranean this year.

Air Pollution Linked to Autism

25 July 2019 (Wall Street International)* —  A group of researchers conducted a study on the impact of air pollution to autism. The study, which was performed in stages over a nine-year period in Shanghai, China, involved children with ages ranging from newborn to three years of age. The subjected children included 124 who already had autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and 1,240 healthy ones (as control)1.

It was found that exposure to fine particles (PM2.5) from industrial emissions, vehicular exhausts, and other sources of outdoor pollution raises the risk of developing autism by up to 78 percent.
