‘Netanyahu meddling in Israel Prize: rightists’ revenge to intellectual leftists’

17 February 2015 (RT)* — The scandal over Israel Prize is the ruling right-wingers’ attempt to conquer one of the remaining outposts, the intellectual one, lead mainly by leftists, Gideon Levy, a columnist at Haaretz newspaper told RT.

The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has removed three judges from the country’s Israel Prize, equivalent of the Nobel Prize. Netanyahu accused them of holding “extremist views” and not reflecting “Israeli society.” It is the first time an Israeli government minister has intervened in the country’s intellectual life.

Terrorism: Ultimate Weapon of the Global Elite

The usual definition of a ‘terrorist’ is simple: a person who uses violence in the pursuit of a political objective.

Wildlife, Forest Crime One of Largest Organized Criminal Activities, alongside Trafficking of Drugs, Arms, Humans

17 February 2015 – Once an emerging threat, wildlife and forest crime has today transformed into one of the world’s largest transnational organized criminal activities, alongside the trafficking of drugs, arms and humans. With the involvement of organized criminal groups, the industrial-level operations have been devastating: according to CITES, in 2013 alone, some 20,000 African elephants were killed, while in South Africa last year, 1,215 rhinos were poached for their horns.

Criminal groups are posing a real threat to a wide range of species. At the same time, they are exploiting gaps in national legislation which undermine safety and security.

Thousands of Cracks in Belgian Reactors, Potentially a Global Nuclear Problem

Most people wouldn’t want to trust their car to the safety of a road like this.

And it certainly isn’t the image anyone wants to invoke when talking about critical equipment in nuclear reactors.

Yet, on Friday the 13th, two leading materials scientists announced that the Belgian reactors, Doel 3 and Tihange 2, may be experiencing the nuclear equivalent in their reactor pressure vessels; essentially the piece of equipment that contains the highly radioactive nuclear fuel core being comparable to an old, busted up road.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, of course.

WRONG.

The real ruler of Israel is one Sheldon Adelson, 81, American Jew, Casino king, who was rated as the world’s tenth richest person, worth 37.2 billion dollars at the latest count. But who is counting?

Besides his casinos in Las Vegas, Pennsylvania, Macao and Singapore, he owns the US Republican party and, lately, both Houses of the US Congress.

He also owns Binyamin Netanyahu.

ADELSON’S CONNECTION with Israel is personal. On a blind date, he fell in love with an Israeli woman.

Miriam Farbstein was born in Haifa, attended a prestigious high school, did her army service in the Israeli institute which deals with bacteriological warfare and is a multifaceted scientist. After an adopted son died of an overdose, she is devoted to the fight against drugs, especially cannabis.

Both Adelsons are fanatical supporters of Israel. Not just any Israel, but a rightist, supremacist, arrogant, violent, expansionist, annexationist, non-compromising, colonialist Israel.

The World Day to Combat Desertification (WDCD) is observed worldwide on 17 June every year. The focus this year is “attainment of food security for all through sustainable food systems.”*

With the slogan, ‘No such thing as a free lunch. Invest in healthy soil’, the 2015 observance calls for:

(1) A change in our land use practices through smart agriculture and adaptation to changing climate, especially in the dry fragile parts of the world where food shortages are becoming more and more severe

(2) Access to technology and land rights for small holder farmers who safeguard the environment and meet the food needs of millions of households, especially among the poorest households

(3) A balance in the land use for ecology and consumption, drawing on the best practices

'It's a crime': Corruption

Corruption is the single greatest obstacle to economic and social development around the world. But it does not just steal money from where it is needed the most; it leads to weak governance, which in turn fuels organized criminal groups and promotes crimes such as human trafficking, arms and migrant smuggling, counterfeiting and the trade in endangered species, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) reported* on 12 February 2015.

In the run up to the 13th United Nations Crime Congress being held in April, different crimes are being highlighted, showing their impact on development and how vital it is to tackle them to achieve sustainable development.

In February 2015 the focus is on corruption, outlining the scale of the problem and telling its transnational story.

It stifles economic growth, undermines the rule of law, and squanders talent and precious resources. Where corruption is rife, companies are reluctant to invest as the costs of doing business are significantly higher. Ultimately, corruption prevents people, countries and businesses from fulfilling their potential.

Boko Haram Attacks Spill Over Chad, Cameroon and Niger

As the continuing violence in north-east Nigeria spills across the country’s borders and into neighboring Chad, Cameroon and Niger, the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) on 13 February 2015 sounded the alarm for the tens of thousands of Nigerian refugees and internally displaced people (IDPs) currently in need of urgent humanitarian assistance.

“We are extremely concerned about the humanitarian situation, as several thousand people are at present without any assistance,” UNHCR spokesperson Adrian Edwards said in a press release.

“We are working with authorities to securely deploy aid workers as soon as possible and at the same time we are preparing for rapid evaluation and response assessments.”*
