Children under Five Account for One Third of Deaths from Food-borne Diseases

Human Wrongs Watch

Diarrhoeal diseases are responsible for more than half of all food borne diseases globally and of all those who fall ill after consuming contaminated food, 420,000 people die – almost third of them children under the age of five, the World Health Organization (WHO) on 3 December 2015 said in its first ever report on the issue.

“Until now, estimates of foodborne diseases were vague and imprecise. This concealed the true human costs of contaminated food. This report sets the record straight,” said WHO Director-General Dr. Margaret Chan upon release of the Estimates of the Global Burden of Foodborne Diseases – the most comprehensive report to date on the impact of contaminated food on health and wellbeing.

Because the priority all along was to allow the CIA – in the shadows – to run a “rat line” weaponizing a gaggle of invisible “moderate rebels”.

As much as Daesh – at least up to now – Barzani mob in Iraqi Kurdistan was never under Washington’s watch. The oil operation the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) runs to Turkey is virtually illegal; stolen state-owned oil as far as Baghdad is concerned.

“The intensification of conflict in Yemen since March 2015 has pushed Yemen’s already weakened health system to the brink of collapse,” the UN World Health Organization (WHO) says in its latest update, appealing to the international community to step up its donations and warning that the crisis has not yet peaked.

“Insecurity, power shortages and a lack of fuel (for generators and ambulances) have led to the closure of almost one in four health facilities.

.

“I condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the continuous grave violations committed against children in armed conflict,” Ban said in his second report on the subject, and he particularly deplored the abhorrent violations against the rights of children committed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), which may amount to war crimes or crimes against humanity.

Saving the Arctic Requires Action on Climate Change and Air Pollution

Human Wrongs Watch

GENEVA, 2 December 2015 (IPS) – Arctic temperatures have increased twice as much as the global average in the past 100 years. Recent photos show that thousands of walruses normally resting on sea ice between dives to find food have been forced to crowd ashore because of extreme sea ice melt in Alaska. Such photos have once again reminded us that it is high time we take serious action on climate change if we want to save the Arctic.

The draft resolution intends to quash the financing of terrorist groups, including Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) extremists.

“We are not happy with the way Resolution 2199, which was our initiative, is controlled and implemented. We want to toughen the whole procedure,” Churkin said.

“We are already discussing the text with some colleagues and I must say that so far there is not a lot of contention being expressed.”

US Ambassador Samantha Power said that America has “a shared objective” with Russia on this, since it is also working towards bringing the financing of terrorism to a halt.
