No, we’re not joking. No, this isn’t science fiction. This is really happening.
Rosatom, the Russian state-controlled nuclear giant, is launching the “Akademik Lomonosov”, the first of its kind, into the world. It’s currently being towed through the Baltic sea, where it will go all around Scandinavia to Murmansk, to be fuelled and tested, before it heads off on a 5,000 km journey through the Arctic.

ROME, 2 May 2018 (FAO)* – Soil pollution poses a worrisome threat to agricultural productivity, food safety, and human health, but far too little is known about the scale and severity of that threat, warns a new FAO report released today at the start of a global symposium.

Industrialization, war, mining and the intensification of agriculture have all left a legacy of soil contamination across the planet, while the growth of cities has seen soil used as a sink for ever greater amounts of municipal waste, says Soil Pollution: A Hidden Reality.

Kabul (IOM Blog)* – In November 2017, Dr. Khadijeh Javadi, 35, a young Afghan engineer recently returned from Iran, was appointed Acting Deputy Minister of Mines and Petroleum of Afghanistan.
Her appointment, as a young Afghan woman brought up and educated abroad, visibly raised the bar for Afghan women in pursuit of professional advancement in a country that remains deeply conservative.
But things could have turned out very differently for Khadijeh, whose working class refugee family never dreamt that their daughter could pursue an academic career that would lead her back to her Afghan roots, with a little help from the Government of Japan and IOM, the UN Migration Agency.
Born in the Iranian city of Isfahan in 1982, Khadijeh was always bright and ambitious.

1 May 2018 – TRANSCEND Media Service — TRANSCEND Media Service is having a fund drive to keep its valuable service – tailored to those of us who want in-depth and critical analyses – not sensationalist corporate media reportage with its shallow “Trumpish-All-sides” “balance”.

In most cases of realities that involve blood, invasion, genocides, war crimes, exploitation, systematic acts of state propaganda, “all sides” and “balance” in journalism, are not simply acts of moral cowardice, but the total absence of intellectual substance.
Peace, nonviolence, social justice are TMS ideologies rooted on basic human rights and needs, non negotiable principles.
Noam Chomsky, the author of Manufacturing Consent, would agree if I make an “outlandish statement” such as there are no ‘Gold Standards’ in journalism. The idea of Gold Standard is itself propaganda.
