10 December 2018 – Several days ago, I joined an unusual Skype call originated by young South Korean founders of “The Hope School.” Located on Jeju Island, the school aims to build a supportive community between island residents and newly arrived Yemenis who seek asylum in South Korea.
Jeju, a visa-free port, has been an entry point for close to 500 Yemenis who have traveled nearly 5000 miles in search of safety. Traumatized by consistent bombing, threats of imprisonment and torture, and the horrors of starvation, recent migrants to South Korea, including children, yearn for refuge.

10 December 2018 – Businesses across the world should no longer be viewed solely as greenhouse gas emissions culprits, but more as indispensable partners for climate action, who stand to increase profits from “going green”. That was the key message as the United Nations COP24 climate change conference went into its second week in Katowice, Poland.

For years, sectors such as construction, transport, farming and retailing, have had the finger pointed at them for being major contributors to greenhouse gas emissions globally and for putting profit ahead of environmental protection.

This year, Human Rights Day marks the
70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a milestone document that proclaimed the inalienable rights which everyone is inherently entitled to as a human being — regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.

9 December 2018 (Wall Street International)* – On October 29 and 30, 2018, the first World Parliamentary Summit against Hunger and Malnutrition was held in Madrid, organized by FAO and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AECID) together with other institutions.
200 parliamentarians from 80 countries met at the headquarters of the Spanish Senate for two days seeking to redouble the efforts of the international community to realize the Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG2) of the UN 2030 agenda that seeks to achieve, within 12 years, a world free of hunger.
The meeting also addressed the problems that are causing overweight and obesity, which have been qualified by the WHO as a 21st century epidemic at global level, with devastating effects on people and threatening to raise the costs of public health budgets.
