19 October 2018 (teleSUR)* – Jair Bolsonaro has five days to appear before the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) and present his case, amid allegations of disseminating fake news. TSE Minister Jorge Mussi made the decision after an online petition — requesting Bolsonaro be disqualified in the race for the presidency in Brazil — was started.

After winning the first ballot on 7 October, candidate Jair Messias Bolsonaro (Social Liberal Party) now leads the polls for the second ballot enjoying 58% of voting intentions (considering only the valid votes). It is difficult to estimate what this means to progressive forces in Brazil.

Separating children from their undocumented parents is a traumatic violation of their rights, UN independent experts said on 19 October 2018.

Johnathan Levinson : Children play at the Todos por Ellos family shelter in Tapachula, near Mexico’s border with Guatemala. 

The group of experts said in a statement that the treatment of migrants as criminals, provokes intolerance and xenophobia, in addition to posing a danger to their well-being.

18 October 2018 — The case of Saudi dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi is just the latest example of a “new and very worrying practice” of States abducting individuals beyond their own borders, said the Chair of the UN Working Group on Enforced Disappearances, addressing the UN General Assembly on 9 October 2018.
