Me Too! — Times Up!

Human Wrongs Watch

By Ellyn Kaschak*

10 February 2018, (Wall Street International)* – There is much in the news these days that is, in fact, no news at all to women and to most men. The cauldron of sexual assault of women and sometimes men mostly by powerful men and, once in a while by a powerful woman, is boiling over and, thus impossible not to see.

Everyone can see the mess it is making as more and more (mostly) women come forward to say “Me too.” I do not want to ignore the experiences of young boys, also molested by adult men, but I also don’t want the experiences of women to disappear from view one more time.

“My brother came back to Guinea after spending one year in Italy, and bought himself a branded car. I wanted the life he had.

I got a passport and applied for a visa, but things didn’t work out as planned so I had to find another way to get to Europe.

When I left home, I had no idea what the route ahead of me would be like. Once in Bamako, I had to ask the smugglers what the way to Europe was, and they explained all the tips and tricks of irregular migration to me.

15 Cases: Constructive vs Destructive U.S. Foreign Policies

Human Wrongs Watch

By Johan Galtung*

12 February 2018 – TRANSCEND Media Service — The right column is sadly familiar; add more recent cases. The left column also carries an element of sadness but nothing really radical; more like common sense that could easily be translated into political practice.

And yet it does not happen, to the detriment of the parties concerned: the USA and its relations to the world.

USA wants to be feared but reaps hatred with right column politics.

Does it want to be loved?

A theory is something tested along its edges (Quine); what you deduce from the theory–and to me the key “edge”–is its action-consequences.

Civilians in War-Torn Yemen ‘Under Fire on All Sides’ – UN Human Rights Chief

Human Wrongs Watch

Raising alarm over continuing civilian casualties in the midst of increased hostilities in war-ravaged Yemen, the United Nations human rights chief underscored that all parties to the conflict are obliged under international humanitarian law to ensure that civilians are not harmed. The situation in Taizz governorate – located in south-west Yemen – is of particular concern.

“Civilians are under fire on all sides, as Houthi and affiliated forces carry out sniper attacks and indiscriminate shelling, and the Saudi-led Coalition continues to conduct airstrikes,” the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, on 12 February 2018 said in a news release.
