Syrian Refugee Children in Jordan Deprived of the Most Basic Needs – UNICEF

Eighty five per cent of Syrian refugee children in Jordan are living below the poverty line and a staggering 94 per cent of those under five in “multidimensional” poverty, meaning that they are deprived of some of the most basic needs such as education, health or protection, an assessment by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has revealed.

“Seven years into [the Syria] crisis, we need to collectively continue to do all that we can to support vulnerable refugee children and their families that are struggling to meet their basic needs,” Robert Jenkins, the head of UNICEF programmes in Jordan, on 26 February 2018 said in a news release.

Impact of [Liberated] Afghanistan’s Fourth Consecutive Year of War on Civilians ‘Far Too High’ – UN Report

25 February 2018 — More than 10,000 civilians have lost their lives or suffered injuries during 2017, according to the latest report by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) documenting the impact of the armed conflict on civilians in Afghanistan.

The report detailed that in 2017, UNAMA and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) documented 10,453 civilian casualties – 3,438 killed and 7,015 injured.

Black Boys — Robbed of Childhood Innocence

26 February 2018 (Wall Street International)* — In September, 2017, in a Southwest Florida town, a 12-year-old black boy was called “N” by a 27-year-old white man, then punched so hard that the boy’s two front teeth were knocked out. The Sheriff’s office was called and investigated. Case seems clear enough, right? The man committed assault and battery upon a child; it could even be classified as a hate crime.

No charges were filed against the man. His actions were deemed self-defense by the investigating officers as the 27-year-old man claimed he feared for his life by a 12-year-old. Yes, an adult white male feared for his life in the face of a black boy.

I HAVE a confession to make: I don’t hate Binyamin Netanyahu. I don’t hate Sara’le either.

I generally don’t hate people. With the sole exception of people who have betrayed the trust I put in them and tried to stick a knife in my back. Not more than three or four in all my life. I am not going to name them.

I have not met Netanyahu on a private basis more than two or three times.

Once, he introduced me to his second wife in the Knesset corridor. She seemed to me a nice young woman.

The second time we met at a photographic exhibition, in which there was a photo of me wearing a pilot’s helmet. (Don’t know how and why).

“You look like Errol Flynn,” he told me. I had never seen an Errol Flynn movie, but took it as a compliment.

6,000 Migrant Deaths Recorded in 2017, ‘Only a Fraction of the Real Number’ Worldwide — IOM

Berlin, 23 February 2018 – ( IOM)* — IOM’s Missing Migrants Project (MMP) reports that 6,142 deaths and disappearances were recorded during migration globally last year, the third consecutive year that more than 6,000 fatalities were recorded by the project.

Since IOM began tracking migrant deaths in 2014, nearly 26,000 fatalities have been recorded – but this is likely only a fraction of the real number of deaths on migratory routes worldwide.

Rohingya children are facing threats either from severe weather approaching Bangladesh where hundreds of thousands are sheltered in squalid, overcrowded refugee camps, or by ongoing violence in their Myanmar homeland, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on 23 February 2018 warned, calling urgently for scaled-up assistance ahead of the region’s storm season and to address the root causes of the crisis.
