Over the past 25 years, Somalia has experienced a cycle of protracted droughts, culminating in the most recent one in 2016 and 2017, when rains failed for three seasons in a row.

Tragically, drought images from the country are so familiar that they rarely make the headlines.
But the situation in Somalia has grown desperate. The recent drought has caused spikes in food scarcity, malnutrition, and cholera and other diseases; it has also driven people from the rural areas into the cities. In 2017, 1.2 million children were projected to be acutely malnourished; 80,000 children were forced to stop attending school; and 120,000 risked dropping out.

5 February 2018 (openDemocracy)* — The main threat to democracy in Brazil is posed by part of the judiciary; a dangerous, well-born, conservative class of mostly white men. And Lula da Silva is their worst nightmare. Español

8 February 2018 (Wall Street International)* — All was ready for landing and the six astronauts could not hide their nervousness. It has been a two-month traveling in that small explorer space ship, and the main problem was, that they did not know what they would find in Ciclope-34.
This was one of the many Earth-like planets, discovered long ago, and a human colony had been implanted there 500 years earlier. However, contacts had stopped since almost one century, and nobody knew why.

8 February 2018 — The United States Department of Defense released its latest ‘Nuclear Posture Review 2018’ (NPR) on 2 February, updating the last one issued in 2010 during the previous administration. See ‘Nuclear Posture Review 2018’.

The Executive Summary of the NPR is also available, if you prefer. See ‘Nuclear Posture Review 2018 Executive Summary’.
Several authors have already thoughtfully exposed a phenomenal variety of obvious lies, invented threats, strategic misconceptions and flaws – such as the fallacious thinking behind ‘deterrence’ and significantly increased risk of nuclear war given the delusional ‘thinking’ in the document – as well as the political fear-mongering in the NPR.

5 February 2018 – Nuclear Age Peace Foundation – TRANSCEND Media Service – The 2018 U.S. Nuclear Posture Review (NPR), released on 2 February 2018, represents a reckless realignment of an already dangerous U.S. nuclear policy.

The review specifically calls for the development of new, low-yield nuclear weapons that have lower explosive force. Many experts warn that such smaller weapons would blur the distinction between nuclear and non-nuclear weapons, representing a significant and dangerous increase in the likelihood of their use.
